Orchiata bark is made by Age Old Organics' New Zealand partner Scotts New Zealand Ltd, produced exclusively from New Zealand-grown Pinus radiata bark through a proprietary aging and pH-correction process developed over more than 20 years.

Orchiata bark originates in New Zealand, where Pinus radiata grows faster and produces thicker, denser bark than it does in its native California range. The production process — aging the chips to modify only the outer bark surface while leaving the core structurally hard — is what separates Orchiata from commodity pine bark sold under other labels. The bark has been commercially available and documented in the orchid growing community since the early 1990s in Japan before reaching wider international distribution.

  • Orchiata bark is sourced from over 4 million acres of managed New Zealand Pinus radiata plantation forest.
  • Orchiata production includes natural Dolomite application to set pH between 5.5 and 6.5 at the end of processing.
  • Orchiata has been commercially documented in the orchid growing community since the early 1990s, beginning in Japan.
  • Orchiata is distributed in five grades ranging from Precision (1/8"–1/4") to Super (3/4"–1").
